Going Vegan

Hello readers! Today I'm going to talk to you about my decision to go vegan. I recently came across veganism on Essena O'Neil's website http://www.letsbegamechangers.com. I seriously recommend you check it out because she has some really cool and interesting ideas and videos that are there. I didn't follow her before she decided to quit social media so I don't know her from that, but the website she has created is phenomenal! While browsing through Let's be Game Changers, I discovered her section on veganism and watched some of the lecture/documentary videos on there. They were really informative and made veganism feel approachable. Also, I'm not going to lie, I sat there crying while watching some of the clips from slaughterhouses and such. It really was...life changing...I don't want to make it seem over the top, but I guess my lifestyle has changed. I'm still making the transition because becoming vegan is a lot about reading food labels carefully. As a vegan, you don't eat any animal products. So that means no meat, no dairy or cheese, and no eggs. The hardest one to watch out for is definitely the dairy because it's not always easy to find in the food labels. And I will definitely have to get better at ordering when I go out. But it's a process :). So I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite new snacks/foods that I have discovered.

The soy milk and peanut/almond butter were the easiest because I was already drinking/eating them! I love soy milk. I honestly think it tastes way better than regular milk. And I'm pretty sure most of you love peanut butter. Yummm :)

Trying this yogurt alternative was a bit scary for me because before I religiously ate greek yogurt for breakfast almost every day. But I find that Silk's soy yogurt alternative is really just as good as regular yogurt. I honestly can't even tell the difference, so thank you Silk! Haha

These vegan bars I discovered last week while watching one of the lectures on veganism, and I was sooo excited when I found out that the campus market carried them! I was super hungry after a workout one night, so I got one of the 'Meal' bars (the one in orange). It looks like birdseed and sort of tastes like birdseed and berries, but I find it so filling! Also, I don't really mind the taste if birdseed because I love nuts haha.

Today I decided to try dates. And I'm going to be honest, when I pulled them out of the package they were sort of slimy and did not look appetizing at all. But I tried one anyway, and oh my gosh it was so sweet! I'm so glad I did not judge these by their cover because they really are good!

And then of course, I've been eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies with carbs like brown rice and bread. And also french fries :) haha. I also find that my digestive tract feels way better without the animal products. So I encourage you to check out Essena's website linked above and have a look around. There are a lot of great ideas there!

Hugs <3
